...As A Way Of Life....:XD:

watercolour on Arches rag paper

Inspired by stories of the decadent days of the British Empire, I imagine this chap sipping tea and having hallucinations in the hot jungle....green elephants[not pink,it's just tea;)?]....from the days when"mad dogs and englishmen"...went out in the midday sun....and hand-cranked gramophones and Earl Grey was served to foolish young men,who brought out girls who had been having tea with the Vicar in Oxfordshire....the week before....and now had the Nile running down the bottom of the garden.....
[for similar tales, and the oddities of "the Kenya Settler's Cookbook"..I suggest you read,"Tales from the Dark Continent"[Allen/Fry]...if you're a boring history nerd like me...I adored it;)

Wow~! So colourful!! I think this is a very different style of colour from what you usually submit...and I  it! Very vibrant and kapow! (Okay didn't know how to explain it haha)

You draw really good lips o.O I like them =P I wish I could make watercolours look as awesome as you!! Practice practice practice >_< When I look at the character, I think more of an irishman lol...because he's freckly with orange hair xD But then he has like a bowler hat and english looking spectacles :O

I really like this!! But the colour is my favourite part!!

heh,thankyou darling:hug:....what lovely comments:)...I appreciate the encouragement;)
...these are my new schminke watercolours;)..I find with the rag paper[and I am a very cheap artist,it has to be good for /me/to spend money:D]..I can keep laying washes to make the colour really intense[and I use watercolour pencils by faber-castell as well:)]

Hehe it's all good ;)

My pleasure!!!!! =D
I should try that when I get some money to spare...I've been splurging lately >_<
And yeah I thought you might've used pencil too...I like the blending effect of the background, how if you look closely you've kinda just taken two main colours at each point...but next to each point is something totally diff like yellow/red next to green/yellow...but then you look at the overall thing and it looks awesome :O

Maybe that didn't make sense but you'll probably get what I'm saying...seeing as you drew it =P

Haha, 'tea' but with a picture of the devil...hmm :P
It looks like the dragon is controlling the guy, plungging the tail into his head and waving those glasses around like that.
That horse reminds me of your other 'O Fortuna'. :P
I could go on and on...details are always so interesting!
AND the colours are magnificent! :D Slightly more vibrant/glossy, 'schminke' you say...but even with simpler basic mediums, your work would still be awesome. Even the background has some faint patterns?
:iconangelusnoir:
splurging is good:XD:..I love the pencils, because sometimes the washes...just have a mind of their own!?[and I salted the bg as well....when you sprinkle rock salt onto a wet wash...to soak up some of the colour, and give texture:)]....
Mmm,this was an exercise for me in complementary harmony..a fancy way of saying what you said;)....I was trying to see if I could mix colours I usually don't touch on my palette:D
Hopefully...my experiments will come to something;)

...ooh,the devil controlled by a dragon?...that is a cool idea?;)...I might have to take that on board?:D

Thankyou very much for your kind comments:hug:[and yes,I have a bit of a carousel mania?;)]...this was a bit of an experiment...with colours I tend to neglect/avoid:D

...and.....although the bg pattern is random... it's been salted[with rock salt],to make a pattern [you can also see it on the hat, for eg...and I have built on the pattern with pencils....]..I think they look more vibrant...cos I have built up the layers/washes..and I have deliberately chosen complementary colours....thanks so much for the encouragement!

Ah yes I forgot about that technique...I remember years ago in art class we made cushion covers, and dyed them...and then put rock salt on to make patterns...wow I still have that cushion too xD

There is no way to measure an artist, or their work, because nothing matters, but their vision. Their acceptance by the rest of the world is merely external.
