...As A Way Of Life....:XD:

watercolour on Arches rag paper

Inspired by stories of the decadent days of the British Empire, I imagine this chap sipping tea and having hallucinations in the hot jungle....green elephants[not pink,it's just tea;)?]....from the days when"mad dogs and englishmen"...went out in the midday sun....and hand-cranked gramophones and Earl Grey was served to foolish young men,who brought out girls who had been having tea with the Vicar in Oxfordshire....the week before....and now had the Nile running down the bottom of the garden.....
[for similar tales, and the oddities of "the Kenya Settler's Cookbook"..I suggest you read,"Tales from the Dark Continent"[Allen/Fry]...if you're a boring history nerd like me...I adored it;)

i've had some pretty strong tea ..my friends and i would do murals on the floor for hours.. painting, smearing and splashing was all we were capable of at the time..couldn't even form sentences.. someone would start speaking..suddenly all eyes focused like a swarm of pinpoints beating the words back down your throat..alarmed silence..awkward hesitations..pained features..then the inevitable thunderous laughter that we all released..hours after the last of the tea was portioned out we were left passed out listening to Goose Creek Syphony or Camper Van Beethoven or King Crimson or ...
i still wonder where the incredible images we created ended up
